This is a collection of eighteen essays, already published individually in newspapers, journals and proceedings of conferences between 1950 and 1965, and represents arguments addressed “to the general audience, not just to the economics profession.” They are arranged under four main headings: Government and the economy; Fiscal policy, the budget and growth; Monetary policy and inflation; The international monetary system; and a brief introduction to each section explains the context in which the papers were originally written and summarizes the general lines of policy advocated in them.
