Cowles 2017-18 Postdoctoral Fellows Named

The Cowles Foundation is pleased to announce its Postdoctoral Fellows for the 2017-18 academic year who will begin their appointments in July. The eight fellows bring a wide range of interests and knowledge to the area of economics.   The Ph.D. graduates are leaders in their fields of research and demonstrate both exceptional scholarly promise and strong orientation toward rigorous mathematical approaches to economics. The Postdoctoral Fellows typically spend one year in residence at the Cowles Foundation, conduct research, and participate in research seminars and conferences alongside the faculty of the Cowles Foundation and the Yale Economics Department. “Each year, the Cowles Postdoc Program brings a collection of the most promising new economists in the profession to Yale,” said Cowles Director, Larry Samuelson.  “It gives the postdocs a chance to focus on their research programs, and enriches the intellectual atmosphere at Yale with exciting new work.” The Cowles Postdoctoral Fellows Program began in 1999 with one appointment, gradually increasing to eight fellows last year. “We expanded the program in order to achieve a broader coverage of topics and fields,” said Samulson. This year’s exceptional fellows include: Giovanni Andreottola A Ph.D. candidate in Economics at the European University Institute in Florence whose research is in applied microeconomic theory, focusing on political economy and information economics. Benjamin Connault An Assistant Professor from the University of Pennsylvania whose current research interests center around dynamic microeconomic models. Soheil Ghili A Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University Ph.D. candidate in Managerial Economics and Strategy whose research interests include Industrial Organization, Health Economics, and Applied Microeconomics. John Eric Humphries A Ph.D. candidate from the University of Chicago, who studies how educational and career dynamics are affected by public policy. He will join the Yale Department of Economics in 2018. Danial Lashkari Completing a Ph.D. program in Political Economy and Government  from Harvard Economics Department, his research interests are on the intersection of growth, innovation, and international trade. Christopher Li A current Princeton Postdoctoral Fellow who received his Ph.D. from Northwestern in 2016, focusing on political economy and applied theory. Cormac O’Dea A public economist whose research focuses on how government policies affect household consumption, saving and labor supply decisions. He is currently working at the Institute for Fiscal Studies in London, and is also completing his Ph.D. in Economics at University College London. He will join the department in 2018. Jacopo Perego A Ph.D. candidate at the Department of Economics NYU whose research focuses on information economics and ranges from pure micro theory to more applied work, especially in experimental economics and political economy.
